Fabulous Fuchsia Follies flutter through the Gardens

Members of the Red Hatters sub-group, the Fabulous Fuchsia Follies, were treated to a tour of Government House Gardens today. The ladies arrived in their purple and red finery to meet one of our Events and Engagement Officers Mr Irek Kucy, and one of our grounds team, fondly named “Sir Colin”.

The tour started with the story of the murder in the Ballroom before moving to the Lady Kyle and vegetable gardens. Colin shared the history of the grounds, explaining the changing landscape throughout the years. Whilst the history was well-received, it was the plants the ladies really wanted to talk about. They asked the tough questions only a gardener like Colin could answer and asked for a few helpful tips for caring for plants they recognised from their own backyards.

The true highlight of the tour was Governor Stirling’s olive tree. A spontaneous hug lead to all joining in.
