Katanning Final Stop: Badgebup Aboriginal Corporation February 3, 2022 By Ashayla Dawn The Governor’s final stop before leaving Katanning was to the Badgebup Aboriginal Corporation – a vibrant organisation that aims to alleviate the economic and social disadvantages of Noongar people in the Central Great Southern Region. They do this by establishing enterprises on Country in order to provide training – tafe and graduate level – and employment opportunities. Their Ranger program, caring for and preserving the land, alongside their work cleaning seeds and propagating plants for local farms, is currently their most prolific. They are also working to further Aboriginal culture through means of tourism, storytelling and traditional foods and pharmaceuticals. The visit began with a traditional smoking ceremony before the Governor was invited to view ongoing projects and meet the rest of the team.
