Where There’s a Will, there’s a Government House cricket bat

In October of 2021, the Governor was approached by Leah Rando-Poller, the WA representative of  Where There’s a Will (aka, Willo), with the request of participating in an ongoing art project.

Where There’s a Will is a collaboration between Will, a young man living with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and artists across Australia to refurbish old cricket bats and give them a new lease on life, all the while raising awareness about the abilities of those living with disabilities. In fact, he has worked with over 700 artists, Prime Ministers, Archibald winners and finalists, UN Ambassadors, sporting superstars, musicians and even schools in order to refurbish, exhibit and auction off his bats. 100% of funds raised are then driven back into the local community to create community-owned, community-driven and community-managed services, places and programs for “all abilities”.

The Governor agreed to partake and enlisted the help of a member of the WA Society of the Arts, Artist Alix Korte,  of which the Governor is a patron.

The bat will be up for auction from 07th March 2022 at 12:00 pm, closing on 14th March 2022 at 12:00pm. Bids can be placed here.
