Making and preserving Western Australian history with the Lord Mayor and the Royal Historical Society March 8, 2022 By Ashayla Dawn The Lord Mayor of the City of Perth, Mr Basil Zempilas visited Government House for a discussion on all things Perth, the City of Light. Discussions included the upcoming redevelopment of the Perth Concert Hall, including exciting new facilities for the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra. The Lord Mayor also provided an update on Perth City Council’s progress following two roundtable meetings held at Government House on the topic of city planning, infrastructure and cultural opportunities. Royal Western Australian Historical Society The newly elected Chair of the Royal Western Australian Historical Society Inc, Mr Richard Offen, and Vice President, Ms Sally Anne Hasluck, popped by Government House this afternoon to update the Governor on the society’s plans for the future. They shared with the Governor recent activities to promote West Australian history, as well as a peek into their thoughts for their centenary celebrations in 2026. The Royal Western Australian Historical Society Inc, of which the Governor is patron, has held a pioneering role in conserving and interpreting Western Australia’s social history – while supporting the recognition of Indigenous history and culture. One of their current major focuses is the publication of a collection of drawings, paintings and visual artefacts, forming a visual archive of West Australian history. Based out of Nedlands, their museum and library, hosting a collection of rare and unique materials pertaining to West Australian history, is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.
