State of Excellence: Space Technologies and Remote Operations

The second State of Excellence dinner focused on the topic of “Space Technologies and Remote Operations” – serving the purpose of both celebrating WA’s world-class operations whilst also providing an opportunity for open dialogue between industry leaders, key decision-makers and those with an interest in the sector’s ongoing development and progression. Thus allowing for a space that fosters the exchange of information with the hope of securing ongoing collaboration.

Western Australia currently holds a commanding position in the global market, however, there is much that still needs to be done to make this State a world leader. There are increasing synergies and opportunities between space technology and remote operations (mining) with strong and clear links between the skill sets and technologies on offer and required by both industries. For example, The Australian Remote Operations for Space and Earth (AROSE) and the Australian Space Automation, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Control Complex (SpAARC), Fugro are both based in Perth. To coincide with this, the mining industry has developed a significant focus on innovation in remote operations. Together, these technologies and mindsets have seen a giant leap forward in space research and applications.
