Celebrating sporting legends of Western Australia

We give honours to recognise, celebrate, and say thank you to those who make a difference, achieve their best, and serve others. The Australian Honours system is a national recognition of the continuous work and efforts of everyday Australians. Today, we celebrated those who contributed greatly to sport in Western Australia.

In a small ceremony at Government House, 10 legends of Western Australian sports were inducted into the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) and one was inducted into the Member of the Order of Australia (AM).

Those recognised include:

AM

  • Mr Keven George Owens. For significant service to sailing through a range of organisations and roles.

OAM

  • Mrs Rosemary Ann Zoe Harrison OAM. For service to equestrian sport.
  • Miss Annabelle Mcintyre OAM. For service to sport as a gold medallist at the Tokyo Olympic games 2020.
  • Mrs Dawn Norrish OAM. For service to horse sports.
  • Mr Ben Popham OAM. For service to sport as a gold medallist at the Tokyo Paralympic games 2020.
  • Mr Leslie James Power OAM. For service to motorsports.
  • Mr Julius Re OAM. For service to football.
  • Mrs Shirley Stephen OAM. For service to swimming.
  • Ms Juliana Stonor OAM. For service to swimming.
  • Mrs Beryl Sutherland OAM. For service to sport, and to the community of Armadale.
  • Mr Robert Sutherland OAM. For service to sport, and to the community of Armadale.
