Honouring great West Australians

26 West Australians were inducted as Members of the Order of Australia (AM), Officers of the Order of Australia (AO) and Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) at Government House today. A collection of hardworking and admirable West Aussies were presented their awards by the Governor.

The Australian Honours system recognises the special contribution Australian citizens make to their communities locally, nationally, and overseas through volunteering, a range of services, professions, the Armed Services and acts of bravery.

Those recognised today include:

AM

  • Mr Peter Grant Airey AM. For significant service to engineering, and to professional organisations.
  • Dr Susan Jennifer Boyd AM. For significant service to international relations, to tertiary education, and to women’s affairs.
  • Emeritus Professor Denise Chalmers AM. For significant service to tertiary education, and to professional associations.
  • Ms Judith Anne Hogben AM. For significant service to people with disability, to seniors, and to children.
  • Ms Carol Innes AM. For significant service to the Indigenous community of Western Australia.
  • Mr Charles Ross Johnson AM. For significant service to town planning, and to the community.
  • Mr James Francis McMahon AM DSC DSM. For significant service to veterans and their families, and to the community.
  • Emeritus Professor John Richard Melville-Jones AM. For significant service to tertiary education in Greek, Roman and Byzantine history to numismatics.
  • Professor Paul Norman AM. For significant service to medicine in the field of vascular surgery.
  • Mr Richard Bruce Porter AM. For significant service to business, and to education through leadership and advisory roles.
  • Professor Bronwyn Gwenneth Stuckey AM. For significant service to medical research, to endocrinology, and to women’s health.
  • Professor Marc Tennant AM. For significant service to tertiary dental education, and to professional associations.
  • Professor Sandra Claire Thompson AM. For significant service to tertiary education, to rural and regional health, and to Indigenous health.

AO

  • Dr John Sylvester Gladstones AO. For distinguished service to primary industry, particularly agriculture and viticulture, and as an author.
  • Professor Geoffrey Richard Lancaster AO. For distinguished service to the arts, particularly music, through education, performance, research and philanthropy.
  • Professor Stephen Donald Wilton AO. For distinguished service to medical research, to neurological science, and to the treatment of Muscular Dystrophy.

OAM

  • Ms Claire Lynette Brittain OAM. For service to the community of Claremont, and to the environment.
  • Mr Paul Lewin Carter OAM. For service to the community through a range of roles.
  • Mr Brian Eric Carthew OAM. For service to the community through a range of organisations.
  • Dr Michael Jon Donaldson OAM. For service to the Indigenous community of Western Australia.
  • Ms Claire Luize Eardley OAM. For service to youth, and to the community.
  • Dr Criena Fitzgerald OAM. For service to community history.
  • Mr Anthony Arthur Fowler OAM. For service to conservation and the environment.
  • Ms Carol Pettersen OAM. For service to the Indigenous community of Western Australia.
  • The late Mr Hugh Arthur Rogers OAM. For service to aged welfare.
  • Ms Michelle Scott OAM. For service to the community through social welfare organisations.
