Recognising those who serve in Western Australia

Established in 1975, the Australian Honours system is democratic in nature – a person must be nominated by someone who knows and admires them, their achievements and their contributions to our community. The Governor made a point of recognising this in his speech to the assembled recipients and their families at today’s award ceremony. He emphasised the lengthy and diligent process that prefaces the dedication of these awards – marking the receival of one as a truly significant achievement.

Across two ceremonies today, the Governor bestowed 27 Western Australians with the Order of Australia Medal (OAM), Order of Australia Medal Military Division (OAM M), the Conspicuous Service Medal (CSM) Public Service Medal (PSM), Australian Police Medal (APM), Ambulance Service Medal (ASM) and Australian Corrections Medal (ACM).
