The Governor lays the first wreath. Battle of Crete Memorial May 29, 2022 By Ashayla Dawn The Governor was invited to attend a wreath-laying ceremony at the Kings Park State Memorial to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the Battle of Crete. Hosted by the Consulate of Greece in Perth, the ceremony was attended by a number of Western Australian and Greek dignitaries – confirming the deep and lasting friendship between the two countries. 104-year-old veteran, Arthur Leggett, the remaining veteran of the Battle of Crete, recited the ode.
