Honouring our fallen Firefighters

International Firefighters’ Day is observed on 4 May each year, to coincide with the feast of St. Florian, the patron saint of all firefighters.

In honour of International Firefighters’ Day the Governor attended a special Memorial Service in Kings Park, held at the Firefighter’s Memorial Grove.

The Governor laid a wreath on behalf of all Western Australians in honour of the volunteer and career firefighters who died in the line of duty.

The Governor joined firefighter’s family members, friends and former colleagues at the Service to pay his respects, along with WA’s Minister for Emergency Services The Hon Stephen Dawson MLC, Minister for Environment The Hon Reece Whitby MLA and Department of Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Mr Darren Klemm AFSM.

The names of 43 fallen firefighters were unveiled on plaques. Additional names will continue to be added to ensure future generations of Western Australians can pay their respects to the brave personnel who died protecting their community.
