State of Excellence: Health and Medical Life Sciences

WA’s Health and Medical Life Sciences industry was the focus of the fourth State of Excellence dinner hosted by the Governor and Ms Annus.

Key government and industry representatives came together at Government House in celebration of the work and achievements in this progressive industry that has seen increased awareness and interest from around the globe in what WA businesses are developing in the medtech and biotech arenas.

Pre-dinner discussions were just as lively as the dinner discussions.

With international activity and attention heightened in the sector as a result of the COVID pandemic, there is no better time for expansion of investment in this sector than now.

The gathering of more than 20 industry leaders and key decision makers offered the chance for a sharing of ideas around continued growth and support of the industry in WA, ways to encourage and attract investment, the need to better train and retain talent, ideas for forging greater collaboration, development of commercialisation opportunities, and a chance to discuss a future focus for the industry in WA amid continued pursuit of excellence.

The State of Excellence Dinners are an initiative of the Governor and Ms Annus to help bring together industries that are helping propel WA’s advancement on the world stage. Previous dinners have focused on other key business sectors including Health & Medical Research, Arts & Culture and Tourism, and Space Technologies & Remote Operations.

The state’s Health & Medical Life Sciences sector is also a current focal point of the WA Government, with the release late last year of the Health and Medical Life Sciences Industry Strategy which provides a blueprint to develop and grow the sector.

National attention in the sector will also turn to WA later this year when the state hosts AusBiotech 2022, Australia’s largest Life Sciences Conference in Perth in October.
