A special evening to thank a special friend

Emeritus Professor Colleen Hayward AM is a dear and valued friend of Government House, often giving of her time to deliver heartfelt Acknowledgements of Country for many of our special events and significant occasions.

To say thank you for her support and friendship over the last four years, the Governor and Ms Annus invited Colleen, her family and friends to join them for a dinner in her honour at Government House.

Professor Hayward has been a familiar face around the House and her contribution has been important and diverse, whether that be her support of events, her sharing of culture and stories with guests and staff, her willingness to help us learn and understand the connection between the past and present, or sharing her expertise and experiences.

“It was so very special to have Professor Colleen Hayward and members of her family and friends join us for a thank you dinner. Colleen has been a great contributor to the House with numerous welcomes to Country at official events, attendance at round tables and working receptions. Colleen is a superb contributor and Susie and I are very grateful.”

Professor Hayward has also featured in some of our special Government House videos sitting down with the Governor in May 2020 for the ‘Conversations at Government House’ series to discuss Whadjuk place names and their significance in local culture, as well as doing us the honour of sharing her thoughts on the Noongar season of Djilba here.
