School Music and Arts and swearing-in a Judge

The Governor and Ms Annus were pleased but saddened to host the final School Music and Arts program today attended by students from South Ballajura Primary School. It was a fitting conclusion to the vibrant and exciting program that was started as a partnership with Musica Viva Australia.

Students enjoyed a vibrant and interactive show.

Before the much-loved Adam Hall and the Velvet Players performed, the Governor had a few words to say;

“Music teaches us lots of important things, and because you are having fun while you are learning, it doesn’t feel like work at all.

It lights up areas of the brain that don’t normally talk to each other across the two hemispheres.

It also helps with developing important skills like empathy, insight and abstract thinking.

Music also brings people together through collaborating with your fellow students in groups whether that is in a choir, an ensemble or maybe one day an orchestra or a band.

By being in a band and sharing music, those skills you develop by collaborating, listening to each other, working together – these are the skills you need in all areas of your life – in building friendships, teams and in families.

And without looking too far ahead, these are the skills that will serve you well when you go to high school and enter the workforce.

Whether music is for you, your hobby, your passion, or your career, it is something you can enjoy throughout your life at any age.

Swearing-in

Mr Egan says a few words after he is sworn in.

Mr Nicholas Anthony Egan was today sworn in as a Judge of the District Court, Judge of the Children’s Court and Commissioner of the Supreme Court by the Governor. The ceremony, held at Government House, was attended by members of his family, the Chief Judge of the District Court the Honourable Judge Julie Wager, the Solicitor-General Mr Joshua Thomson SC and the Director General Department of Justice Dr Adam Tomison.

Mr Egan is accompanied by his two daughters, his partner and his brother.

Mr Egan has spent the past 34 years in the legal profession, with the last 17 serving in the State Solicitor’s Office where he was responsible for managing the largest legal practice in the State. He also played a crucial role in advising on and resolving the many complex and urgent issues brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, Mr Egan received the Public Service Medal for his work during the pandemic and was named on the Commonwealth COVID Honour Roll in 2021 and as Australian Government Lawyer of the Year in 2009.
