Lunch with Legacy WA

Fast approaching their centenary anniversary, Legacy WA invited the Governor and Mrs Dawson to attend a Christmas in July celebration – an opportunity for beneficiaries of Legacy WA’s support to gather and gain strength from their connection to other widows and widowers.

Over 200 people attended the event.

The Christmas in July event showcased decorations, a plethora of merry attire and live music entertainment. The Governor enjoyed spending time speaking with the various attendees about their experiences with Legacy.

Legacy is an important service organisation that provides counselling, support, advocacy and gateway services to the families of deceased and ill-health veterans of the Australian Defence Force, and has done so for 99 years. Currently supporting more than 3,700 people, services include relief from financial hardship, advice and referrals to support services such as counselling, assistance with children’s education and development, encouraging like-minded friendships, and advocating for entitlements and services. Most of which are provided for by volunteers.

The Governor hosts his first meeting of the Executive Council.

The Governor hosted his first meeting of the Executive Council early this morning. In attendance were the Honourable John Quigley LLB JP MLA Attorney General; Minister for Electoral Affairs and the Honourable Reece Raymond Whitby MLA Minister for Environment; Climate Action.

A visit from Vietnam

The Governor greets the Ambassador.

His Excellency Mr Nguyễn Tất Thành, Ambassador of Vietnam, met with the Governor earlier today. Accompanied by Mr Bui Quoc Thanh Consul-General of Vietnam in Perth and Ms Chau Le First Secretary, the Ambassador commented on how lively the city of Perth was and how much he had enjoyed his first visit to the State – and his particular fondness for the U&I Cafe in Northbridge.

Australia and Vietnam will celebrate their 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The Ambassador spoke highly of the recent elevation of bilateral relations between WA and Vietnam, in recognition of the growing importance of the relationship.

Also discussed was furthering the opportunities of international studies for students, energy and climate change targets, as well as trade and investment.
