Being inspired by our Australian of the Year

When it comes to inspirational Australians Dylan Alcott AO is at the top of the list, and today he shared what’s motivated him across life and his successful sporting career at a special event attended by the Governor and Mrs Dawson.

2022 Australian of the Year, Dylan was the guest speaker at the Auspire – Australia Day Council WA ‘Inspiring Australians’ Lunch. A paralympic gold medallist for Australia in wheelchair basketball, and our nation’s most successful ever wheelchair tennis champion, he is the only man to have achieved the golden slam in men’s singles (winning all four majors and a paralympic gold medal in the same year) and a grand slam in doubles.

Dylan is a powerful advocate for diversity and inclusion, recognised for his leadership and commitment to developing opportunities for people with a disability.

Nominations for the 2023 Australian of the Year Awards have now closed, and Governor Dawson looks forward to learning of the achievements of all nominees and celebrating with outstanding Western Australians when the winners are announced in early 2023.
