Djilba at Government House

Djilba, also known as the season of conception, runs through August and September.

Djilba sees the explosion of wildflowers across the South West of WA. First yellows and then pinks. A transitional time of year, the days shift between cold and clear and warmer rainy days. Towards the middle and end of the season, we start to see the next generation of land animals emerge as the birds continue to nest. The koolbardi (magpie) and djidi djidi (willy wagtails) are particularly protective and will swoop any who come too close.

During the ‘Season of Conception’, you may see blooming in our Gardens:

  • Azaleas (Rhododendron)
  • Rose of the West (Eucalyptus macrocarpa)
  • Flowering quince (Chaenomeles japonica)
  • Geraldton wax (Chamelaucium uncinatum)
  • Bush lily (Clivia miniata)
