Full STEAM ahead at Mandurah Baptist College

The Governor and Mrs Dawson were invited to Mandurah Baptist College this evening to unveil the newest edition to the school – a state-of-the-art STEAM education facility.

STEAM Education is an approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking.

In his address, the Governor noted the importance of integrating the arts with STEM learning;

“To succeed in life after school, our young people need to:

  • Take thoughtful risks;
  • Engage in experiential learning;
  • Persist in problem-solving;
  • Embrace collaboration; and
  • Work through the creative process…

and this is what a STEAM-based education provides.

Arts and sciences do not exist separately from each other. Musicians and artists work within the scientific constructs of time and rhythm and measurement.

Equally, our scientists draw on creativity both to find creative solutions to problems and to express the importance of their findings.”
