Zdravo, Wanjoo and G’day – meeting with Serbia, Danjoo Koorliny and Perth Festival

Zdravo to Serbia

The Governor welcomed His Excellency Mr Rade Stefanovic, Ambassador of Serbia, on his first official visit to Western Australia.  The Ambassador was accompanied by Ms Ivana Isidorovic, Deputy Head of Mission.

The Ambassador noted the strong Serbian community in Western Australia and Australia generally, which confirms the enduring friendship between the nations.

While there is uncertainty current geopolitical climate in Europe brings many challenges, the discussion addressed Western Australia’s capacity to assist with improving supply chain issues and progressing towards greater use of renewable energy through the use of rare earth and hydrogen.

The Ambassador and Governor also discussed Western Australian companies with operations in Serbia, agreeing there would be a mutual advantage in skills-sharing. The Governor highlighted opportunities for Serbian students and graduates to consider Western Australia as a rewarding destination to develop their skills and experience.

The Governor and Mrs Dawson hosted the Co-Directors and Project Team Members of Danjoo Koorliny today.

Danjoo Koorliny Walking Together Towards 2029 and Beyond’ is a bold, long-term, large-scale Aboriginal-led systems change project, led by Dr Richard Walley OAM, Emeritus Professor Colleen Hayward AM, Carol Innes AM and Dr Noel Nannup OAM. Its broad aim is to create awareness and action to help Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in Western Australia, Australia and globally to co-create a better future for all.

Today, the Governor and Mrs Dawson welcomed the Co-Directors and Project Team Members Professor Paul Flatau and Mr Jason Barrow to Government House for an update on the Danjoo Koorliny project in the lead up to 2029.

‘Our djinda – our collective star is the values that we embody. It’s the way we get there, and the principles we work with. It’s the sum of our collective actions that take us to where we need to be in order to create a 2029 we can all be proud of. It belongs to no organisation but hovers above all of us and aligns us so that we can care for everything.’

Those are the words of the Co-Directors of Danjoo Koorliny.

The Artistic Director of the Perth Festival, Mr Iain Grandage and the Executive Director Mr Nathan Bennett paid a visit to the Governor. Mr Bennett and Mr Grandage were keen to provide an update on the role of the Festival in the Community, as well as share some of their early plans for the 2023 program – marking 70 years of the event.
