The Governor’s School STEM Awards October 11, 2022 By Ashayla Dawn Today, students and representatives of faculty from Ashdale Secondary College attended a small event and tour of Government House to celebrate their achieving a Governor’s School STEM Award. The Governor congratulated students and staff for their hard efforts. The Governor addresses the students. “I hope this experience encourages you to pursue your interest in STEM and I look forward to seeing what wonderful things you will achieve in the future.” For eight years, the Governor’s School STEM (Science Technology Engineering Maths) Awards have recognised outstanding school leadership and teaching in STEM disciplines. The awards, an undertaking by former Governor Kerry Sanderson, were designed to raise awareness of the importance of STEM education among school leadership, and incentivise them to support their teachers in undertaking STEM initiatives. As well as to identify high-quality outcomes and approaches in the STEM subjects. Students enjoy some morning tea. Ashdale had previously won the award in 2020. A high-achieving school, Ashdale were also finalist as Secondary School of the Year at the WA Education Awards. A high proportion of their students choose STEM subjects, with industry mentors assisting students in their development.
