Boats and a Ball

The Governor and Mrs Dawson joined many guests at the Ritz-Carlton in honour of the annual WIRF Gala. The Women and Infants Research Foundation Gala 2022 raises funds for important health research into preterm birth prevention – the leading cause of death and disability in children up to five years of age.

The WIRF Gala unites philanthropists, sporting personalities, and leaders from private industry, health and medicine, in their commitment to improving the health of all women, mothers and their babies. The WIRF Gala is the Foundation’s largest annual fundraising event and features live and silent auctions along with an on-the-evening raffle.

Among the featured speakers on the evening included WIRF’S CEO, Deb Portughes, and WIRF’s Chief Scientific Director, Professor Matt Kemp, who captivated the Gala audience with their presentations on the Foundation’s achievements to date and exciting future directions and research initiatives.

Sailing Open Day

Prior to the WIRF Ball, the Governor attended the annual Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club Open Day – marking 125 years of the club.

The objectives of the Club are:

  • the encouragement and facilitation of sailing, boating and associated skills and activities;
  • to organise, hold and promote matches, races, regattas, competitions and events in connection with sailing and boating;
  • the provision of facilities for the promotion of social interaction between members and their guests.
