Executive Council, STEM Tour and a visit to Shalom House

Swearing in a new Clerk

This morning, during the fortnightly Executive Council meeting, the Governor swore in Ms Kate Colleran, Parliamentary and Executive Government Services Manager, as a Clerk of the Executive Council.

The Clerks of the Executive Council provide secretariat support and ensure that the State Government’s Constitutional requirements are met.

Joseph Banks Secondary School

The Governor and Mrs Dawson hosted students from Joseph Banks Secondary College for a House tour this morning following their success in the Governor’s School STEM (Science Technology Engineering Maths) Awards. Joseph Banks Secondary College received the 2021 STEM Leadership Excellence Award in the Secondary School Category.

Joseph Banks Secondary College is dedicated to continuing to expand their STEM expertise opening a Space Science Education Centre in mid-2023. The centre will focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics learning, as well as space sciences and will provide students with a simulated Mars or lunar surface, facilities to perform space science experiments and technology for a Mission Control experience. The Space Science Centre will be open to other schools to use either physically or virtually, providing incredible opportunities for remote schools.

Shalom House

Shalom House is a residential rehabilitation centre located in the Swan Valley. The centre provides services to men, women and families who are struggling with addiction to life controlling substances.

The Governor and Mrs Dawson visited some of the properties today and received a briefing on the work being undertaken. The program is for voluntary admission and has a very high success rate.
