Visit to Foodbank WA

The Governor headed to Foodbank WA today to see first hand the incredible work they do in supporting Western Australians in need.

He met with volunteers and staff and heard more from CEO Kate O’Hara and Board Chair Derek La Ferla about the organisation’s extensive operations including its on-site store, school breakfast program, and its food education and training program aimed at promoting healthy eating.

There’s also Foodbank WA’s chefs and support teams who transform surplus food donated by supermarkets and businesses into healthy meals for distribution over a large part of the state.

It was also a chance to drop-off two car loads of food donations collected by the Governor and Mrs Dawson at Government House in support of Foodbank’s community support work.

For the past six weeks all guests attending events and functions at Government House and in the Ballroom were encouraged to bring in donations to help Western Australians in need and today the Governor and Government House staff delivered enough to fill three massive containers of donations to Foodbank WA, with a whopping 756kg of goods handed over – enough food to provide 1362 meals to those in need.

Foodbank WA is Western Australia’s largest food relief organisation providing over 6.7 million meals a year to people in need
