Receiving the High Commissioner of Mauritius

Three years to the day she was first advised of her appointment as High Commissioner of Mauritius to Australia, Her Excellency Mrs Marie Monty met with deputy to the Governor the Honourable Justice Kenneth Martin as part of her first official visit to Western Australia.

Justice Martin, who is representing the Governor whilst he is overseas, received Mrs Monty and Mr Ian Whitaker, Honorary Consul of the Consulate of Mauritius in Perth.

Australia is home to the world’s second largest Mauritian expat community, with over 5900 people of Mauritian descent living in Western Australia.

Mrs Monty spoke of the important geographical connection between Mauritius and Western Australia as ‘neighbours’ in the Indian Ocean, and her hopes for closer links between the two nations.

Mrs Monty also encouraged Western Australians to consider Mauritius as a tourist destination, with direct flights from Perth having resumed in late 2022.
