Deputy of the Governor Hon Justice Kenneth Martin inspecting the pitch. Ultimate Backyard Cricket Match 2023 March 18, 2023 By Adam Brouwer It was a glorious day at the GHCG (Government House Cricket Ground) for the Pirate Ship Foundation’s Ultimate Backyard Cricket Match this afternoon. Deputy of the Governor Hon Justice Kenneth Martin inspected the pitch – and found it to be green and flat with no cracks, providing an even contest between bat and ball. This was the third instalment of the charity event, that brings together former and current cricketing greats, sports and media personalities to raise money for vital research into childhood brain cancer. This year was a cracker, after winning the toss the Pirates elected to bat and outclassed the Governors on the day following some superb batting and bowling performances.Funds raised by The Pirate Ship Foundation are invested directly into childhood brain cancer research programs, including to the Brain Tumour Research Program at Telethon Kids Institute in Perth.
