The Governor and Mrs Dawson joined with RSL WA Volunteers to plant commemorative poppies at Government House Planting poppies to remember the fallen April 17, 2023 By James Pratt The lawns at Government House turned red as the annual Anzac Day poppy installation commenced this morning. The Governor and Mrs Dawson joined with volunteers from RSL Western Australia to begin the process of planting over 40,000 crocheted poppies. Each poppy has been hand crafted, and the installation which is open to the public (see below) commemorates lives lost during World War I. Among the poppies, which represent fallen soldiers, are purple crocheted poppies which represent animals. Sprigs of rosemary, the symbol of Anzac Day, have also been planted on the lawns.
