The Governor presents the 2023 Australia Day Honours during a ceremony at Government House. Celebrating the first investiture ceremony for the 2023 Australia Day Honours Awards May 2, 2023 By Amelia O'Sullivan A key part of the Governor’s role is the recognition of significant service and outstanding contribution to the Western Australian community. One of the ways this is done is through the Australian Honours and Awards system.Today, the Governor hosted the first of two Investiture ceremonies for the 2023 Australia Day Honours presentations. Recipients included those receiving the Member of the Order of Australia, Bravery and Meritorious Awards.Today’s ceremony also included a special presentation to Mr Tim Britten CV. Mr Britten was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal.This medal was a personal gift from Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, honouring living Australian holders of the Cross of Valour. Mr Britten received the Cross of Valour for his heroic efforts during the 2002 terrorist bombing of the Sari Night club in Bali.Following an Acknowledgement of Country by Emeritus Professor Colleen Hayward AM, the Moorditj Mob from Wesley College engaged attendees with traditional dances depicting the emu and the kangaroo.The Governor noted during his speech,These are awards that recognise excellence, through exceptional leadership, achievement, and service to community – and you have demonstrated outstanding qualities of character, and have set an example for us all to follow.
