A not so short conversation with Short Back and Sidewalks February 24, 2022 By Ashayla Dawn The Governor welcomed the 2022 WA Australian of the Year Local Hero award winner, Mr Craig Hollywood, to record an episode of Conversations at Government House. Craig is the man behind Short Back & Sidewalks (SBSW), a free hair-cutting and grooming service for members of the community who are experiencing homelessness. First beginning in 2015, the not-for-profit works alongside service providers across Australia, providing friendly and attentive hair-cutting experiences with an array of hairdressers and barbers as volunteers – in fact, the entire team from top to bottom are volunteers. In 2021 alone – despite COVID – they provided over 400 haircuts nationwide and started nearly 500 conversations and connections, utilising over 3000 hours of time by dedicated volunteers. Stay tuned for release details.
