The Governor today hosted an afternoon tea in recognition of the appointment of Ms Carmel Barbagallo as a Judge of the District Court of Western Australia, Judge of the Children’s Court of Western Australia and Commissioner of the Supreme Court of Western Australia.

Judge Barbagallo was sworn in at the start of February during the COVID-19 strict lockdown period, with today’s event a chance for the Governor to recognise and celebrate her appointment, along with close family and colleagues.

Ms Barbagallo began her legal career in 1989 and has worked in a variety of roles in WA’s Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, most recently as Deputy Director with responsibility for the prosecution of Bradley Robert Edwards, one of the state’s longest running and high profile cases.

She officially took up her position as a Judge of District Court on February 2, 2021.
