Celebrating 70 years of Guide Dogs, visiting St Patrick’s Community Support Centre, and a catchup with WA singer-songwriter Gina Williams

Cody, Annie, Sunday and Georgie stole the show at Government House today, four VIP’s (very im-paw-tant pooches) who joined the Governor, Ms Annus and special guests at a 70th birthday celebration for Guide Dogs WA.

Guide Dogs WA was the first Guide Dog organisation in Australia, established in 1951 by Dr Arnold Cook, and for the past seven decades has been providing life-changing Guide and Assistance dogs for West Australian’s living with low vision, disability or illness.

With the support of government, stakeholders, staff and volunteers the organisation continues to build and expand, this year branching out to provide Autism Assistance dogs to WA children and their families. Next year will see Guide Dogs WA launch a state based breeding and training program.

The Governor congratulated the staff, volunteers and supporters for their outstanding efforts over 70 years, and for continuing the wonderful vision of Dr Cook to build such an important West Australian organisation.

A visit to St Patrick’s Community Support Centre

Experiencing first-hand the support and care provided to the homeless and those at risk in the Fremantle and surrounding areas was a memorable experience for the Governor when he visited St Patrick’s Community Support Centre.

The Governor had the opportunity to tour the facilities and learn more about the vital services provided such as emergency relief; crisis and transitional housing; meals; social activities; welfare and essential health provision.

The visit ended with a sing-a-long with staff, clients and the Starlight Hotel Choir based at St Pats.

Catch-up with singer-songwriter Gina Williams

Thanks to Gina Williams for popping into Government House today to help us out on a surprise project that we’re getting ready for next week.

Gina spent some time filming in the Government House Gardens with our team, before heading inside for a catch-up with the Governor and Ms Annus.

A great opportunity also to hear more about her upcoming new album with Guy Ghouse and other exciting music plans in 2022.
