Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference launch and swearing in of Judge Bruce Goetze

The Governor and Ms Annus welcomed members of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Australia to Government House today for the official launch of the 2021 CPA Australia and Pacific Regional Conference.

CPA is a non-partisan association of Commonwealth parliamentarians who work together to promote parliamentary democracy and good governance.

Attending the conference either in person, or virtually were representatives from the nine Australia Region branches including the ACT, Commonwealth of Australia, NSW, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and WA.

The conference theme, Parliament, People and Pandemics, focuses on the sharing of ideas and practices with a particular emphasis on the impacts of parliamentary operations during the pandemic.

“Our shared challenges with COVID-19 have demonstrably impacted on the way Parliaments operate around the Commonwealth,” the Governor said.

“The nature of Parliamentary work changed due to the magnitude of Government responses, which included urgent introduction of emergency powers, often without the full picture or complete data-sets.

“This involved strength and intuition from Governments, which is to be commended.”

Swearing in Judge Bruce Goetze 

Congratulations Judge Bruce Goetze who returned to Government House today for the Governor to officially extend his appointment as Auxiliary District Court Judge for a further six months.

The Governor welcomed Judge Bruce Goetze, family members and official guests to Government House for the swearing in and presentation of his Commissions.

The appointment of members of the Judiciary including Judges, Magistrates and Justices of the Peace is a key Constitutional role of the Governor.
