CEO of Council on the Ageing updates Governor on COVID-19 challenges and achievements

The Governor met with Ms Christine Allen, CEO, Council on the Ageing WA (COTA WA) to receive an update on the effects of COVID-19 on older West Australians and the Council’s plans for recovery.

The Governor was pleased to hear an insight into the Council’s findings during this time,

“Great to speak with Christine Allen from COTA WA who provide enormously helpful advice to our community. The Council has just recently launched ‘The At Home Guide’ book to support older Western Australians to live well with with easy access to information and support services and a compendium of important telephone numbers that some may find difficult to access online. Particularly relevant during the COVID-19 isolation period.

Also interesting to hear that half of the older Australians the Council has spoken with enjoyed the COVID-19 lock-down period because they experienced an increase in people contacting them to check they were doing OK, and to offer company.”

The Council’s aim is to work towards an equitable, just and inclusive society in which older people can flourish.

The Governor is proud to be Patron of the Council on the Ageing WA
