This morning, the Governor and Mrs Dawson visited the Perron Institute, one of the Governor’s new patronages. Mr Rob McKenzie, Chair and Mr Steve Arnott, Chief Executive Officer, provided a briefing on the work currently being undertaken by Perron Institute. Following this, the Governor and Mrs Dawson were escorted on a tour of the laboratories and met with researchers and students.
The Perron Institute is a global collaborator and home to WA’s most successful research breakthrough team. Professor Samar Aoun, Perron Institute Research Chair in Palliative Care at UWA recently received the 2023 WA Australian of the Year award which was presented by the Governor at Government House.

Consul of Italy in Perth
The Governor received Mr Nicolo Constantini, Consul of Italy in Perth. The Consul shared with the Governor how pleased he was that the new seasonal direct flights from Perth to Rome were underway. The Consul and Governor also remarked warmly on the significant contribution that Italian migrants have made to enrich the West Australian community.

Consul-General of Japan in Perth
The Governor received Mr Yasushi Naito, Consul-General of Japan in Perth. The Consul-General shared how pleased the community were to have been present for the World of Food Festival held in the Government House Gardens last weekend. Discussion included the significance of the recent visit by the Prime Minister of Japan for the annual Australia-Japan Leader’s Meeting as well as opportunities for increased tourism between Japan and Western Australia now that borders have reopened.

A reception for the Consular Corps of Western Australia
In the evening, the Governor and Mrs Dawson hosted a reception for the members of the Consular Corps Western Australia. Representatives from each of the countries with a presence in WA were invited together to celebrate and acknowledge the work they each do for their respective nations. Consular representatives play an important role in encouraging and promoting interests between their home countries and Western Australia.
The Governor took the opportunity to welcome incoming Dean of the Consular Corps Mr Ahmad Fikri Zakian, Consul General for Malaysia as well as other incoming Consuls for India, USA, Japan, Serbia, Lebanon and San Marino.
