The Governor and Mrs Dawson with His Excellency Mr Shingo Yamagami, Ambassador of Japan to Australia and his wife, Mrs Kaoru Yamagami EXCO and catch-ups with our Indian and Japanese neighbours August 23, 2022 By Adele Hollywood CONSUL GENERAL OF INDIA The Governor received recently appointed Consul General of India Mr Amarjeet Singh Takhi (external link) accompanied by Mr Naresh Sharma, Consul. Discussion focused on the importance of international cooperation and friendship in a changing geopolitical landscape, with strong ties between Western Australia and India. The Governor and Consul General noted the significant Indian population in Western Australia, with large numbers of Indian students and skilled workers making their home in this State and enriching our community. This was the first meeting between the Governor and Consul General, with each looking forward to further engagements during their respective terms. The Governor with Mr Amarjeet Singh Takhi Consul General of India AMBASSADOR OF JAPAN The Governor received His Excellency Mr Shingo Yamagami, Ambassador of Japan to Australia and his wife, Mrs Kaoru Yamagami, accompanied by Consul-General Mr Toru Suzuki (external link). Japan is an important and long-standing partner of Western Australia, and has been a major contributor to the development of the State’s agriculture, mining and energy sectors. The Ambassador was appointed to the role in November 2020. Following Executive Council, the Governor swore-in Ms Jessica Jane Shaw MLA (external link) as Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Roger Cook MLA, Deputy Premier; Minister for State Development, Jobs and Trade; Tourism; Commerce Science (external link).
