Governor hosts reception to launch new endowment fund for West Australian Ballet

The Governor and Ms Annus were delighted to host a reception for the West Australian Ballet on Monday to launch their first Endowment fund, dedicated to the long term sustainability of the company.

During the night, two separate donations were announced from Jack Bendat and Alexandra Burt’s foundations totalling up to $4.1 million.

  • The first was a $1.6 million commitment by the Bendat Family Foundation with the ability to create a permanent fund to support a Young Artist Scholarship for WAB in perpetuity.
  • The second was a $500, 000 donation from the Wright-Burt Foundation and a further $2 million in matching funds until the end of the year. Ms Alexandra Burt is Patron of private giving for the Ballet.

This is the largest philanthropic gift ever given to the Company.

The Governor thanked both the Bendat Family Foundation and Alexandra and Julian Burt for their outstanding commitments and support of West Australian Ballet,

This marks one of the most generous gifts to the arts made in WA. These kinds of partnerships will shape the future of culture and the arts in Western Australia!

The Governor is patron of West Australian Ballet which is Australia’s oldest Ballet Company, founded in 1952.
