The Governor officiated at the 2021 Western Australian of the Year Awards ceremony, hosted by Auspire – The Australia Day Council of Western Australia.
Western Australia’s 16 nominees included doctors and scientists, a rural tourism ambassador, the founder of Plastic Free July, an Aboriginal arts and culture leader, a young advocate for voluntary assisted dying and the man who urged Australians to support healthcare workers during COVID-19.
Four winners were chosen across four categories – the State’s Local Hero, Young Australian, Senior Australian and Australian of the Year.
The winners below will now represent WA at the overall 2021 Australian of the Year Awards on Australia Day eve next year:

- WA Senior Australian of the Year: Dr Richard Walley OAM (Champion of Aboriginal culture)
