Meeting the students at Fremantle College Governor visits Clontarf Foundation Fremantle Academy October 19, 2020 By Adele Hollywood The Governor visited the Clontarf Foundation at Fremantle College to receive an update on the Foundation and a brief on their response to COVID-19 pandemic. Ross Kelly, Chairman, Clontarf Foundation, Gerard Neesham, CEO, Clontarf Foundation, Myles Draper, Principal, Fremantle College welcomed the Governor to the Fremantle College to learn of the Clontarf Foundation involvement. Hearing from three previous graduate students from the Clontarf Academy After the briefing, the Governor heard from Jeffery, Dillon and Andrew, three previous graduate that had attended the Clontarf Academy, to learn of their journeys and how Clontarf has impacted and changes their lives. The Governor with Dillon, Andrew and Jeffery In the short time Fremantle College has been a part of the Clontarf Academy, they have had a significant influence, attracting over 56 of the male Aboriginal students. What is even more encouraging is the fact that all of these students have dramatically improved their average school attendance. Addressing the students at Fremantle College in the Clontarf program The Governor then went on to meet with High School student that are part of the Clontarf Academy through Fremantle College. “The brilliants in the Clontarf Foundations is that they have found a mechanism for transition, a mechanism to connect. The concept to use Australian Rule Football to harness natural skills and senses is providing a strong base for students to excel and I couldn’t be prouder to be Patron this organisation.” The Governor The Clontarf Foundation exists to improve the education, discipline, life skills, self-esteem and employment prospects of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and by doing so equips them to participate more meaningfully in society. Speaking with Year 12 students from Fremantle College As of 2020 there are 122 Academies within 135 schools across Western Australia, Northern Territory, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia.
