The Australian UN Women’s theme for International Women’s Day is ‘More Powerful Together’ – recognising the important role we all play as women, men, non-binary and gender diverse people in achieving gender equality.
The heavy focus of both is one of equality of human rights and outcomes in all facets.
For many women around the world today, the issues are about personal safety, security and having any rights at all.
These are the macro level themes. All of us on this day bring it back to the micro level and consider what we can each do in our community and personal lives to advance these goals.
We had an opportunity to make a statement about that last night at the 2019 WA Women’s Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
15 West Australian women, of all ages and from a diverse cross section of work and interests, were recognised for the difference they have made to the lives of others in our community and the standards of excellence they have achieved.
The theme of triumph over adversity was much in evidence. Fabulous role models for women. A great teaching moment that provides for the whole community.
