Meeting the hard working researchers at Telethon Kids Institute

Telethon Kids Research Institute is Western Australia’s leading paediatric research institute, improving the health, development and lives of children and young people. Today, the Governor and Mrs Dawson undertook a tour of the facilities to learn more.

The Governor and Mrs Dawson were hosted by Professor Jonathan Carapetis AM, and met just a few of the 1,200 researchers who contribute to the life-saving research the Institute undertakes.

They enjoyed meeting the staff at the Discovery Centre located on the ground floor at the northern entrance of the Perth Children’s Hospital. The Centre is a fun and interactive space full of games designed to encourage people of all ages to learn more about science, health and research.

Professor Helen Milroy AM, Professor Ashleigh Lin and Dr Alix Woolard spoke about the Embrace Project, Western Australia’s first research collaboration devoted to the mental health of children and young people aged 0-25.

Ms Val Swift, Aboriginal Co-Director for the Djaalinj Waakinj Centre for Ear and Hearing Health and Associate Professor Chris Brennan-Jones  provided details about the important models of care required for ear and hearing health in remote and regional areas.
