African Tulip Tree

Native to tropical Africa, the African Tulip Tree is a fast-growing evergreen tree, reaching up to 24 metres in height.

Also known as the Spathodea campanulata, it is popular as an ornamental or street tree.

When flowers appear they are usually bright red or orange in colour, and tulip shaped.

This particular tree was planted in March 1989 by Lady Kyle, the wife of former Governor Sir Wallace Kyle (1975-1980).
