Holly Oak, Evergreen Oak or Holm Oak

The evergreen oak tree in the Government House Gardens was planted during the term of former Governor The Honourable Kim Beazley AC in dedication of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

In 2022, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II became the first Australian Monarch to celebrate 70 years of service, with this particular tree put into the ground in her honour on May 25, 2022

With the scientific name Quercus ilex, the tree is more commonly known as the Holly Oak, the evergreen oak, or holm oak.

This one will grow into a large  evergreen, and is expected to be as large as it is tall, producing acorns annually and offering visitors to the Gardens a shady spot to sit under when fully grown.
