The Governor met with HMAS Perth Memorial Foundation President Mike Bailey and Project Manager, Commander Jim O’Neill Parks, Memorials, and a Maritime proposal make for a busy day August 25, 2021 By Carole Kerr A day of back-to-back briefings for the Governor as he met with a variety of community representatives. The day began with an update from HMAS Perth (I) Memorial Foundation representatives President Mr Mike Bailey and Project Manager Commander Jim O’Neill ANC RTD. The Foundation is working to build a memorial to HMAS Perth, and as Patron of the Foundation the Governor was keen for an update on progress. You can find out more about the Foundation here Meeting with the WA Parks Foundation The Governor also met with former WA Governor the Hon Kerry Sanderson AC CVO in her current capacity as Chair of WA Parks Foundation. The Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation working to ensure our parks are conserved, understood and cared for. Joining Ms Sanderson was Board Member and Chair of the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority Mr Richard Simpson, and General Manager WA Parks Foundation Ms Melanie Wilshin. The trio provided the Governor with an update on their ongoing work. Welcoming Commodore Brett Dowsing, RAN to Government House The Governor today welcomed retired Navy Commodore Brett Dowsing RAN to Government House. The catch-up was a chance to talk about opportunities to further expand WA’s strategic capabilities, as well as an update on a proposal to develop a Maritime Academy in WA.
