The Governor attends the Korean War Veterans Commemoration at Kings Park

Paying respects to our Korean War Veterans, Executive Council, and receiving the Commonwealth Shadow Attorney-General.

Today marks an important day in Australian history, a day to remember the more than 17,000 Australians who served in the Korean War and the 340 who lost their lives.

July 27 every year is commemorated as Korean Veteran’s Day and today the Governor attended a special service at the Australian War Memorial at Kings Park in honour of our Korean Veterans, and laid a wreath on behalf of all Western Australians.

“It was a wet but moving ceremony commemorating the service of our personnel in the Korean War, joined by some Korean Veterans who themselves have made Western Australia their home,” said the Governor.

“We forget that the Korean War has never ended. There is an armistice and were hostilities to be resumed Australia would be automatically committed. We have a deep friendship between our two nations, but often we don’t understand how deep it is.”
