Sold out “DivaLicious-Opera Rocks!” show entertains Perth theatre goers in the Government House Ballroom

Presented as part of the Restart the Arts with Government House initiative, opera singers and ‘comic sopranos’ Penny Shaw and Fiona Cooper Smyth entertained a sold-out audience in the Government House Ballroom on Sunday, 19th July.

Joined by baritone Robert Hofmann (“What The Fandango!” fame), the Divalicious Duo delivered their fun-filled, costume-packed show which has been nominated for Best Cabaret at Fringe World and had standing ovations at Sydney Opera House.

Penny and Fiona reported that audience feedback was extremely positive, with many grateful to be able to watch a live performance show now that COVID-19 restrictions have eased in the State,

“Attending a show in the Ballroom was a first for so many of our grateful audience members and it was so wonderful to be able to make the tickets affordable and therefore accessible for everyone, even with a restricted numbers of tickets on sale. We were fully sold out and a good time was had by all!”

Penny and Fiona also received a positive review of the show in Seesaw Magazine (external link) plus feedback from audience members who enjoyed the show,

“I just wanted to let you know that my husband and I took my 86yr old mother to your show at the Government House Ballroom yesterday, and at the end she very cheerily said, “That is the best thing I have ever seen!” I am super glad to have found something that we all enjoyed and she can relate to. We look forward to seeing you again. Thank you for the great venue (so accessible with parking near by) and relatively cheap tickets… it was greatly appreciated.”

“Wow – just WOW!! Your concert at Government House this afternoon was absolutely incredible, thank you so much. Three beautiful voices and a wonderful pianist, so very talented, very, very funny and I loved all the costume changes… Please do it again…”

Restart the Arts with Government House is part of the Governor’s commitment to continue to increase the use of Government House for social and economic recovery efforts in a post-COVID-19 era.
