“The Chinese approval paves the way for the Outback Dragon project to advance to the final stage of assessment and approval by Screen Australia.

Ms [Bronwyn] Barnes, [Legend Media Chair] said that the project also recently received a significant boost with China and Hong Kong-based production house Er Dong Pictures Group taking a majority interest in the production.

She said Er Dong was collaborating with Legend’s Chinese media partner, Truly Sense Media, to finance the Chinese component of the film.”

Representatives from Truly Sense Media were part of a high profile Chinese Film Industry delegation that visited Perth in February last year as part of a wider tour that included the Pilbara and South West to discover new movie locations.

During their visit, the Governor and Ms Annus, with the Hon Peter Tinley, Minister for Asian Engagement, welcomed the delegates to WA at an evening reception at Government House.

Guests included Legend Media, Mr Lei Kezhong, former Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Perth, as well as WA film industry and government representatives.

In his speech, the Governor remarked that new networks and people-to-people links with China are critical to our collective future, and that film and television is an important part of diversifying our relationship for mutual benefit.

The Governor’s Priorities – Arts and cultural development

Advocating for the State as a rich and vibrant arts, cultural, educational and tourism destination is one of the Governor’s priorities.

The Governor and Ms Annus are committed to supporting organisations and activities which advance the objectives of those building the State’s future and seek to create opportunities to increase the use of Government House, Ballroom and Grounds as a facility to enhance this capacity.
