Supporting Mission Australia’s Christmas Lunch in the Park

For 47 years staff and volunteers from Mission Australia have been giving up their Christmas Day to help families at the ever-expanding ‘Christmas Lunch in the Park’ in Perth’s Wellington Square.

Today the Governor and Mrs Dawson visited the large marquee to say thank you on behalf of all Western Australians.

Around 320+ volunteers were on site on the day, with many more giving up their time over the weeks leading up to, and after the event, helping to set-up and pack down the facilities.

Since the first Christmas in the Park in 1975 over 68,500 meals, served in the style of a traditional Christmas Lunch, have been shared with individuals and families in need, including those who may be homeless, alone or doing it tough.

The Governor and Mrs Dawson spoke with and met dozens of people including lunch guests, volunteers and Mission Australia staff.
