The Orchestra Collective debuts at Government House, part of our Restart the Arts initiative

The Government House ballroom was the setting for a unique concert when student musicians took to the stage alongside professionals as part of the debut performance for The Orchestra Collective.

West Australian Symphony Orchestra’s John Keene was the Music Director and Conductor for the performance, bringing music students from WAAPA and UWA together with WASO professionals to present works from Mozart and Beethoven including Mozart’s – Don Giovanni Overture, Mozart’s Flute Concerto No. 1 in G Major, as well as Beethoven’s – Symphony No. 7

The evening also featured a solo from WASO’s Principal flutist Andrew Nicholson.

In reviewing the performance The West Australian’s David Cusworth said “Conductor John Keene evoked a brisk and bright delivery from the start, the portentous opening chords of Mozart’s Don Giovanni overture finding a delicate balance in the intimate setting. All but the lower strings were standing, the players swaying to the music as if in a dance; the classic style of the venue adding to the composer’s timeless appeal.”
